lost my ability to be tactful, I think…

one of these days, my mouth is gonna get me in trouble. in case you hadn’t noticed, I’m rather opinionated. I tend to see certain things in black and white. in the past several years, I’ve discovered that I much prefer to be my authentic self, and that means I don’t filter what I say nearly as much as I used to.

this is probably not a good thing, when it comes to the workplace. :p

I’ve got this boss. well actually, I’ve got 2 bosses. neither of them are particularly fabulous as bosses go, but it’s the big boss I have more issues with. I just can’t seem to find any respect for him.

If you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. ~ JK Rowlings

^^ this is the issue. I’ve watched how he treats those he thinks are his inferiors, and he’s very dismissive of them. he seems to think if people fear him, they must respect him.

I don’t fear him. I don’t respect him. I don’t especially like him, either.

yeah, I know. he’s a boss. I don’t have to like him. but I don’t generally respect people that aren’t likable.

anyway, I may or may not have been overheard, by big boss, when I was sharing my opinion of him with another employee. yeah, definitely not the smartest move on my part, talking to another employee at work about this subject.

maybe it’s not tact I lost, it’s discretion. in any case, I need to pay much more attention to what comes out of my mouth at work, before it comes out.

but just in case, I’ve updated my resume already. I know big boss can’t find anything wrong with my work, because I’m way overqualified for the job I’m doing, and I rock at what I do. but that doesn’t mean he won’t look for some other reason to get rid of me eventually, if that’s what he wants to do. it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. turn-over is really high at work, they’re used to getting rid of people.

btw, just for the record, I think that if you work in a secure building where the doors are locked, and you’re a grown man, then you need to carry your own damn key and let yourself in, and not always expect your employees to stop what they’re doing just to let you in the fucking door.

but hey, that’s just my opinion…

  1. It’s not just you. I suffer laziness and stupidity with much less grace than I used to. But, bosses get to be self-centered, lazy, self-important idiots if they want to – it’s part of the deal. On the other hand, a good boss, who is usually also a good person, never wants to be self-centered, lazy, etc. And if you had one of those, you wouldn’t mind opening the door for him on the rare occasion that he didn’t have his key handy. And he would thank you for it every time.
